The Glenlivet stands as one of the most storied distilleries in Scottish whisky history, nestled in the remote glen of the River Livet in Speyside. Founded in 1824 by George Smith, it was among the first distilleries in Scotland to obtain a legal licence under the Excise Act, a bold and consequential decision in a region rife with illicit distilling. Smith's courage in going legitimate — reportedly facing threats from rival smugglers — helped pave the way for the modernisation of the Scotch whisky industry. The whisky itself is celebrated for its quintessential Speyside character: light, floral, and fruit-forward, with notes of pear, peach, citrus blossom, and gentle vanilla. The 12 Year Old expression, in particular, has long served as a benchmark for the single malt category and remained the best-selling single malt Scotch in the United States for many years. Today, under the stewardship of Pernod Ricard, The Glenlivet continues to produce a wide range of expressions that honour the original vision while exploring new dimensions of maturation and flavour.
