Craigellachie
Speyside, Scotland · 1891'den beri
Craigellachie Distillery was established in 1891 near the confluence of the rivers Fiddich and Spey in the heart of Speyside, Scotland. Its name derives from a nearby rocky promontory, meaning 'rocky crag' in Scottish Gaelic — a fitting metaphor for a whisky that refuses to conform. While Speyside malts are typically associated with elegance and fruit-forward lightness, Craigellachie deliberately charts a different course. Its spirit is meaty, sulphurous, and complex, shaped in large part by the continued use of traditional worm tub condensers, which limit copper contact and preserve heavier, more textured flavours. This uncompromising approach has earned it a devoted following among enthusiasts who seek character over convention. Since 2014, under John Dewar & Sons — part of the Bacardi group — Craigellachie has released a core single malt range anchored by 13, 17, and 23-year-old expressions. Each bottling layers roasted meat, dark dried fruit, beeswax, and a distinctive sulphurous edge that sparks debate and admiration in equal measure. It is a whisky that demands patience and rewards curiosity.
