Clynelish
Highland, Scotland · 1819'den beri
Clynelish is a distinguished Highland single malt distillery located near the coastal town of Brora in Sutherland, on Scotland's rugged northern shores. Its history dates to 1819, when the original distillery was established by the Marquess of Stafford as a means of utilising the abundant local barley harvest. The current modern facility was built in 1967 alongside the original, which briefly continued production under the name 'Brora' before closing. Clynelish is celebrated for its distinctively waxy, coastal character — a signature combination of sea salt, honeycomb, orchard fruit, and warm spice that sets it apart from other Highland expressions. This unique texture has made it a prized component in prestigious blended Scotch whiskies, most notably Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve. Operated under Diageo's stewardship, Clynelish has grown into one of the most admired single malts among connoisseurs, independent bottlers, and collectors who seek depth, complexity, and an unmistakable sense of place.
