White Oak Akashi

Hyogo, Japan · 1888'den beri

Akashi whisky is produced by Eigashima Shuzo, one of Japan's oldest licensed whisky distilleries, located in the coastal city of Akashi in Hyogo Prefecture. Founded in 1888 primarily as a sake and mirin producer, Eigashima Shuzo obtained one of Japan's first whisky licenses in 1919, making it a true pioneer of Japanese whisky history. The White Oak Akashi range draws its distinctive character from its proximity to the Seto Inland Sea, where the maritime climate — salty air and moderate humidity — plays a quiet but meaningful role in the maturation process. The whiskies are offered in both single malt and blended expressions, typically presenting notes of citrus zest, vanilla, gentle oak, and, in sherry-matured versions, dried fruits and light spice. Long overshadowed by Japan's larger distillery names, Eigashima Shuzo has gradually captured the attention of the global whisky community, celebrated for its authentic craftsmanship and understated elegance. Akashi represents the quieter, more contemplative side of Japanese whisky culture.
