Tobermory

Islands, Scotland · 1798'den beri

Tobermory Distillery stands in the colourful harbour town of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, off Scotland's western coast, and holds the distinction of being one of the country's oldest distilleries, established in 1798. Its history has been far from smooth — the distillery has closed and reopened several times over the centuries — yet each revival has brought a renewed sense of purpose and craft. Operating under two distinct expressions, Tobermory produces unpeated single malt under its own name, celebrated for floral, fruity, and maritime notes, and peated single malt under the Ledaig label, which carries the rugged earthiness and smoke associated with the Hebridean islands. The island's pure, mineral-rich water source and the Atlantic-influenced climate play a defining role in shaping both expressions. Tall, onion-shaped copper pot stills encourage extensive copper contact, contributing to the light, elegant backbone of the spirit. For those willing to venture beyond the mainland distillery trail, Tobermory offers a genuinely rewarding encounter — a dram shaped by island life, old traditions, and a resilience that mirrors Mull itself.
