Templeton Rye draws its identity from one of the most colorful chapters in American whiskey folklore. During Prohibition, the small town of Templeton, Iowa, became notorious for producing an illicit rye whiskey so prized that it allegedly found its way to Al Capone's table. Founded in 2006, Templeton Rye Spirits set out to revive that storied recipe for modern drinkers. The whiskey is built on a high-rye mash bill, delivering a signature profile of bold spice, cracked pepper, and dried fruit rounded out by the vanilla and caramel warmth of new charred oak barrels. The brand navigated a significant credibility challenge around 2014 when it became widely known that production had been sourced from the MGP distillery in Indiana rather than Iowa. In response, Templeton updated its labeling to include sourcing information, a move that helped restore trust among discerning consumers. Today, expressions such as the 4-Year Small Batch and the 6-Year sit comfortably within the American craft rye conversation.
