Tamdhu Distillery was founded in 1897 near the village of Knockando in Speyside, Scotland, sitting close to the banks of the River Spey. Its Gaelic name translates to 'little dark hill,' a nod to the gentle landscape that surrounds it. After passing through several owners over the decades, the distillery was revived in 2012 under Ian Macleod Distillers, who gave it renewed purpose and a clearly defined maturation philosophy. What sets Tamdhu apart is its unwavering commitment to maturing its single malt exclusively in Oloroso Sherry casks sourced from Spain. This practice imparts a rich, layered profile of dried fruits, raisins, Christmas cake spice, and toasted nuts, all underpinned by a smooth, warming Speyside sweetness. Expressions such as the 10, 12, and 15 Year Old, as well as the acclaimed Batch Strength releases, showcase the depth achievable when cask selection is treated as an art form.
