Stauning was born in 2005 on the flat, windswept plains of Jutland, Denmark, when nine friends with a shared passion decided to turn an old slaughterhouse into a whisky distillery. What began as a weekend experiment soon evolved into one of Scandinavia's most compelling whisky stories. The distillery is defined by its commitment to traditional craftsmanship: floor malting, open peat fires, and direct-fired small pot stills that draw from old-world techniques while carving out an unmistakably Nordic identity. The Tradisjon range showcases soft, fruity single malts that speak of Danish restraint and elegance, while the KAOS rye expressions bring a bolder, earthier dimension rooted in the region's grain heritage. A partnership with Proximo Spirits in 2019 expanded production capacity without abandoning the artisanal spirit that defines the house. Stauning occupies a rare position in the whisky world — it carries the soul of a small craft operation yet speaks with the confidence of a distillery that knows exactly what it wants to be. It is a genuinely new voice on the global whisky map.
