Yellow Spot is one of the most distinguished expressions within the Spot Whiskey range, rooted in the long heritage of Dublin wine merchants Mitchell & Son, who have been in business since 1805. The 'Spot' name derives from the old practice of daubing coloured paint on casks to mark their age — yellow indicating a 12-year maturation. Distilled in the traditional Irish single pot still style at the Midleton Distillery in County Cork, Yellow Spot undergoes a triple maturation across American bourbon barrels, Spanish Oloroso sherry butts, and rare Malaga wine casks, the last of which lends it a uniquely sweet and fruited complexity. On the nose, fresh orchard fruits, honeyed beeswax, and warming spice interplay with the classic creamy pot still character. The palate reveals tropical fruit, barley sugar, and a gentle nuttiness, while the finish lingers with dried fruits and soft oak. Having been unavailable for many decades, Yellow Spot's relaunch in 2012 marked a milestone in the Irish whiskey renaissance, reaffirming that single pot still whiskey can stand proudly alongside the world's most celebrated spirits.
