Port Charlotte

Islay, Scotland · 2001'den beri

Port Charlotte is a heavily peated whisky series produced by Bruichladdich Distillery on the Isle of Islay, off Scotland's western coast. The name pays homage to the small village of Port Charlotte, situated on the shores of Loch Indaal, which once had its own thriving distilling history in the 19th century. When Bruichladdich was revived in 2001, master distiller Jim McEwan sought to explore the smokier side of Islay's heritage through a dedicated expression. Typically reaching around 40 parts per million of phenols, Port Charlotte strikes a measured balance between the restrained smoke of some Islays and the extreme peat levels of releases like Octomore. Yet phenol numbers alone tell only part of the story: beneath the confident campfire and medicinal smoke lies a generous core of orchard fruit, rich malt, and coastal brine. Each annual release is shaped by cask selection and maturation choices, offering collectors a layered experience that evolves year upon year. Port Charlotte is an Islay whisky that rewards patience and curiosity in equal measure.
