Ornellaia is one of Italy's most celebrated estates, born in 1981 along the sun-drenched Bolgheri coast of Tuscany under the vision of Marchese Lodovico Antinori. Inspired by the pioneering spirit of Sassicaia — a neighboring estate tied to his family — Lodovico sought to craft a wine of international ambition from Bordeaux varietals planted on his own land. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot found an ideal home in the mineral-rich soils near the Tyrrhenian Sea. In 2002, the estate passed to the Frescobaldi family, who continued its legacy with unwavering dedication. Ornellaia's flagship wine is celebrated for its deep ruby color, aromas of dark fruit, graphite, and tobacco, with a palate of remarkable concentration and silky tannins. The estate is equally renowned for its 'Vendemmia d'Artista' project, where each vintage is interpreted by a contemporary artist, linking wine and visual art in an enduring dialogue. Ornellaia stands as a cornerstone of the Super Tuscan movement and a defining voice in modern Italian viticulture.
