Opus One stands as one of the most celebrated collaborations in the history of wine: a joint venture between Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild fame and Robert Mondavi, the visionary pioneer of California winemaking. Founded in 1979 and releasing its first vintage in 1980, the project sought to merge the elegance of Bordeaux with the boldness of Napa Valley. The winery is located in Oakville, where its striking crescent-shaped building is as much a statement of ambition as the wine itself. Each year, a single red Bordeaux-style blend is produced, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot.
