Nikka Coffey Grain

Hokkaido / Tokyo, Japan · 1934'den beri

Nikka Coffey Grain stands as one of the most distinctive expressions from Nikka Whisky Distilling Co., founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the man who brought Scotch whisky craftsmanship back to Japan. The 'Coffey' in its name refers to the continuous column still invented by Aeneas Coffey in 1831, and Nikka remains one of the very few distilleries outside Scotland and Ireland to still operate these traditional Coffey stills, housed at the Miyagikyo Distillery. Produced primarily from corn-heavy grain mash, this whisky delivers a profile that surprises with its depth and complexity: rich vanilla, sweet corn syrup, creamy caramel, tropical fruit hints, and a delicate oak backbone. The texture is full and velvety, with a long, warming finish that belies the lightness often associated with grain whisky. Nikka Coffey Grain has become a benchmark for what Japanese grain whisky can achieve, earning acclaim from connoisseurs who might otherwise overlook the grain category entirely.
