The name translates from Spanish as 'private blend,' with the numeral 9 referencing the ninth iteration of the formula before it was deemed perfect. The wrapper is a Connecticut broadleaf grown in the shade, paired with a carefully selected combination of Nicaraguan and Honduran filler and binder leaves. The result is a complex, full-bodied smoke characterized by notes of dark chocolate, espresso, toasted cedar, and subtle earthiness with a natural sweetness on the finish. When it finally reached retail shelves around 2008, demand far outstripped supply, cementing its reputation as one of the most sought-after boutique cigars in the modern premium market.
