Laphroaig

Islay, Scotland · 1815'den beri

Laphroaig Distillery stands on the southern shore of Islay, the southernmost of Scotland's Inner Hebrides islands, and has been producing whisky since 1815 when brothers Donald and Alexander Johnston established it on a working farm. The name itself derives from the Scottish Gaelic, meaning roughly 'the broad hollow by the bay', a name that captures the wild, wind-scoured landscape surrounding it. Laphroaig is arguably the most famous heavily peated single malt Scotch whisky in the world, defined by its bold medicinal, iodine-rich, and deeply smoky character that draws from Islay's ancient peat bogs and the Atlantic-washed barley dried over those fires. The distillery maintains its own floor maltings, a rare and labour-intensive practice that contributes directly to its unmistakable flavour. In 1994, Laphroaig became the only whisky to hold a Royal Warrant from HRH The Prince of Wales, a distinction that added a layer of prestige to an already legendary name. Now part of the Beam Suntory portfolio, Laphroaig continues to honour its rugged heritage through expressions such as the classic 10 Year Old, the richly matured Quarter Cask, and the complex Lore.
