Nestled in a small bay on the southern shore of Islay, Lagavulin Distillery has been crafting one of Scotland's most distinctive single malts since 1816. The name derives from the Gaelic for 'hollow by the mill,' a fitting description for a site steeped in centuries of illicit and then legitimate distilling history. What defines Lagavulin above all else is its commanding character: waves of peat smoke intertwined with briny sea air, dried fruit sweetness, dark chocolate, and a finish of extraordinary length and warmth. Its 16-year-old expression remains a benchmark of Islay whisky, widely regarded as one of the great single malts in the world.
