Kilkerran is the single malt expression of Glengyle Distillery, located in Campbeltown, once hailed as the whisky capital of the world. Glengyle was mothballed in 1925 and lay silent for nearly eight decades before the Mitchell family — already owners of the neighbouring Springbank Distillery — revived it in 2004. Because the Glengyle name was held by another brand at the time, the whisky takes its name from Kilkerran, the historic name of the Campbeltown area. For many years, the distillery released its maturing spirit under the 'Work in Progress' label, inviting enthusiasts to follow the whisky's development year by year. Kilkerran's character reflects the distinct Campbeltown style: a gentle coastal brininess, orchard fruit sweetness, and a medium-bodied structure that rewards patience. Both bourbon and sherry cask maturation contribute to its layered complexity. As one of only three operating distilleries in Campbeltown today, Kilkerran carries the weight of a proud regional tradition with quiet confidence.
