Kilchoman

Kilchoman stands as one of the most compelling stories in modern Scotch whisky, established in 2005 on the western shores of Islay as the island's first farm distillery in over a century. Founded by Anthony Wills, the project was born out of a desire to return to whisky's agricultural roots — to produce a spirit that is intimately connected to the land from which it comes. Barley is grown on-site at Rockside Farm, malted using local peat, distilled in small copper pot stills, and aged in carefully selected casks, all within a remarkably self-contained operation. The resulting whiskies carry the unmistakable fingerprint of Islay: robust coastal peat smoke, brine and sea spray, balanced by creamy vanilla, citrus zest, and tropical fruit. Expressions such as Machir Bay, Sanaig, and the flagship 100% Islay — made entirely from the distillery's own barley — showcase the range and ambition of this young house. Despite its relative youth, Kilchoman has earned a devoted global following and a respected place among Islay's legendary names.
