The subsequent construction of Chichibu Distillery in the cool mountain surroundings of Saitama Prefecture marked a new chapter, one that would capture the attention of whisky enthusiasts worldwide. The legendary Card Series, bottled from those salvaged Hanyu casks and labeled with playing card motifs, became one of the most sought-after collector's items in whisky history, with complete sets commanding extraordinary sums at auction. Meanwhile, the Chichibu releases reflect a meticulous, hands-on philosophy: small-batch production, diverse cask types including mizunara oak, and a patient approach to maturation that yields expressions of unusual complexity.
