Glenfiddich was founded in 1887 by William Grant on the banks of the Robbie Duff stream near Dufftown in Speyside, Scotland. Its Gaelic name translates to 'Valley of the Deer,' a reference immortalised in the brand's iconic stag emblem. Grant largely built the distillery by hand alongside his eight children, producing the first spirit on Christmas Day of that year. Still independently owned and operated by the Grant family, Glenfiddich has held the title of the world's best-selling single malt Scotch whisky for decades. Its signature profile features fresh pear, delicate oak, creamy vanilla, and a whisper of warm spice — a character shaped by the distillery's distinctive pear-shaped stills and the pure waters of the Robbie Duff. In 1963, Glenfiddich made history by becoming the first distillery to actively market and export single malt whisky globally, at a time when blends dominated every international shelf. This pioneering spirit has never faded; the distillery continues to push boundaries with experimental expressions and innovative cask finishes while honouring the craftsmanship of its founding generation.
