Glen Elgin
Speyside, Scotland · 1898'den beri
Glen Elgin Distillery was established in 1898 near the town of Elgin in Speyside, Scotland, by William Simpson, a notable figure in the malt whisky trade of the era. The distillery's early years were turbulent; the economic downturn that struck the Scotch whisky industry around the turn of the twentieth century forced a temporary closure not long after its founding. After passing through several ownerships, Glen Elgin is today part of the Diageo portfolio. For much of its history, the distillery operated largely in the shadows, supplying high-quality malt for blending purposes — most famously as a key component of the White Horse blend. Its spirit is distinguished by floral and fruity aromatics, a gentle waxiness, and a rounded, approachable sweetness underpinned by subtle spice. Long fermentation times and unhurried distillation allow the character of the malt to develop fully, resulting in a whisky of quiet complexity. Official single malt releases from Glen Elgin have historically been scarce, lending the distillery an air of understated exclusivity that appeals greatly to dedicated collectors and those who appreciate Speyside at its most refined and graceful.
