Legend holds that founder Paul Jones Jr. named the brand after the red rose corsage worn by his beloved at a grand ball — a romantic gesture immortalized in the distillery's enduring emblem. What truly distinguishes Four Roses in the bourbon landscape is its singular production philosophy: the distillery employs two separate mashbills and five distinct proprietary yeast strains, yielding ten unique bourbon recipes. These individual recipes are then skillfully blended — or bottled as single expressions — to create the core lineup of Yellow Label, Small Batch, Small Batch Select, and Single Barrel. After decades of limited availability in the United States, Four Roses underwent a remarkable renaissance following its acquisition by Kirin Brewery in the early 2000s, re-emerging as a critically acclaimed global brand.
