Domaine de la Romanée-Conti

Bourgogne, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée, Fransa · 1760'den beri

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, universally known as DRC, stands as the most revered estate in the world of fine wine. Located in Vosne-Romanée within Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, it has long been considered the ultimate expression of Pinot Noir's potential. The estate's flagship vineyard, Romanée-Conti, was acquired in 1760 by Prince Louis-François de Bourbon de Conti, lending the domaine both its name and its aristocratic legacy. Today, co-managed by the Leroy and de Villaine families, DRC oversees eight Grand Cru vineyards, including Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, and Le Montrachet. Biodynamic farming practices, meticulous hand-harvesting, and extremely low yields ensure that each bottle captures the precise character of its terroir. The wines are celebrated for their extraordinary complexity: silky red fruit, woodland floor, spice, and an almost ethereal tension between power and elegance. While DRC bottles command extraordinary prices at auction, the true significance of the domaine lies in its unwavering commitment to expressing the soil rather than the winemaker's hand — a philosophy that has shaped Burgundy's identity for generations.
