Convalmore
Speyside, Scotland · 1894'den beri
Convalmore is a silent distillery located in Dufftown, in the heart of Speyside, Scotland, founded in 1894. After changing hands several times over the decades, the distillery came under the ownership of William Grant & Sons in 1985, the same year production permanently ceased. For much of its operational life, Convalmore was part of the DCL (Distillers Company Limited) portfolio, which later became Diageo. One of the most fascinating chapters in Convalmore's history is its brief experiment with continuous distillation in the early 1900s — a bold, unconventional attempt that set it apart from its Speyside contemporaries. Today, the distillery buildings serve as warehouses for William Grant & Sons. Official bottlings are exceedingly rare and highly sought after, with most expressions coming from independent bottlers such as Gordon & MacPhail. The whisky itself tends to present gentle orchard fruit, subtle floral notes, and warm spice — a quietly elegant style that rewards patience. For enthusiasts of lost distilleries and the broader tapestry of Scotch whisky history, Convalmore represents a poignant and rewarding pursuit.
