While the vast majority of Irish whiskeys are produced from unpeated malt, Connemara deliberately embraces peat smoke, setting itself apart in a tradition that otherwise shuns it. Born at the Cooley Distillery, founded in 1987 in County Louth, the brand was acquired by Beam Suntory in 2011 and continues production under the Kilbeggan Distilling Company umbrella. On the nose, Connemara offers a beguiling interplay of honeyed sweetness, ripe orchard fruits, and a gentle but unmistakable peat smoke.
