Caperdonich
Speyside, Scotland · 1897'den beri
Caperdonich is a silent Speyside distillery that opened in 1897, situated directly adjacent to Glen Grant in Rothes. Originally known as Glen Grant No. 2, it was built to meet the booming late-Victorian demand for Scotch whisky, with wort piped directly from Glen Grant's facilities. The distillery closed in 1902 before reopening in 1965 under the ownership of Seagram, only to be mothballed once more in 2002 following Pernod Ricard's acquisition. Its stills were eventually sold and relocated. Whisky laid down during its operational years has since become a prized rarity among collectors and enthusiasts. Caperdonich single malts are typically characterised by fruity, floral and subtly sulphurous notes, with a gentle Speyside elegance that rewards patient exploration. Bottlings from independent houses such as Gordon & MacPhail and Signatory Vintage have kept the distillery's legacy alive, offering precious glimpses into a lost chapter of Scottish whisky heritage.
