Benriach
Speyside, Scotland · 1898'den beri
BenRiach was founded in 1898 by John Duff near Elgin in the heart of Speyside, Scotland. Almost immediately after opening, the distillery was mothballed in 1900 and spent the better part of six and a half decades operating solely as a maltings facility for the surrounding industry. It was revived in 1965 by Longmorn Distilleries and quietly produced spirit for blends for many years. The true turning point came in 2004 when an independent consortium led by Billy Walker acquired the distillery and embarked on an ambitious mission to redefine its identity. Under Walker's stewardship, BenRiach released a remarkably diverse range of expressions that challenged the notion of what Speyside whisky could be: alongside the classic floral and fruity single malts came heavily peated variants and rare cask finishes in Sauternes, Tokaji, and Moscatel wood, among others. This willingness to experiment without abandoning craft earned BenRiach a devoted following among adventurous whisky enthusiasts. In 2016, the distillery was acquired by Brown-Forman, which has continued to support its character-driven, exploratory approach while investing in long-term production quality.
