The Balvenie was founded in 1892 by William Grant, just a stone's throw from his already-established Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown, at the heart of Speyside. What sets Balvenie apart in the crowded landscape of Scotch whisky is its steadfast commitment to traditional craftsmanship: it remains one of the very few Scottish distilleries that still grows a portion of its own barley, operates its own traditional floor maltings, employs an in-house coppersmith to maintain its stills, and keeps a team of coopers tending to its casks.
