Auchentoshan
Lowlands, Scotland · 1823'den beri
Auchentoshan is one of Scotland's most distinctive Lowland distilleries, situated just north of Glasgow near the Kilpatrick Hills. Founded in 1823, its name derives from the Gaelic 'Achadh an Oisein', meaning 'corner of the field'. What truly sets Auchentoshan apart is its commitment to triple distillation — a practice rare in Scotland but reminiscent of Irish whiskey tradition. Running the spirit through three copper pot stills results in an exceptionally smooth, light and approachable whisky, rich in fresh citrus, green apple, vanilla and delicate floral notes. This elegant style is a hallmark of the Lowland region, where subtlety and refinement are prized over smokiness and intensity. Having passed through Morrison Bowmore's ownership, the distillery now operates under Beam Suntory. Its sherry-matured expressions add a welcome layer of dried fruit, chocolate and warmth to the signature lightness, demonstrating that Auchentoshan is far more versatile than its gentle character might suggest. It remains a benchmark for those exploring the softer side of Scotch whisky.
