Ardmore
Highland, Scotland · 1898'den beri
Ardmore Distillery was established in 1898 by William Teacher & Sons in Kennethmont, Aberdeenshire, deep within the Scottish Highlands. Its original purpose was to supply malt whisky for the Teacher's Highland Cream blend, a role that quietly defined its character for over a century. What sets Ardmore apart within the Highland category is its use of peated malt — a relatively uncommon choice in a region more associated with unpeated, fruity expressions. The distillery employs traditional coal-fired pot stills, a practice that has largely disappeared elsewhere, lending its spirit a distinctive depth and warmth. The resulting whisky balances smoke, vanilla, toffee, and a gentle earthiness that makes it approachable yet layered. Now under the ownership of Beam Suntory, Ardmore continues to uphold its traditional production methods. Expressions such as Ardmore Legacy and various quarter cask finishes have helped it carve out a modest but devoted following among enthusiasts who appreciate peated Highland malts. For those who seek smoke without the maritime intensity of Islay, Ardmore offers a gentler, more pastoral alternative.
