Antinori Tignanello

Tuscany, Chianti Classico, Italy · 1971'den beri

Tignanello stands as one of the most consequential wines ever produced in Italy, a bottle that quite literally rewrote the rules of Tuscan winemaking. First vinified in 1971 by the Marchesi Antinori estate, it was among the earliest examples of blending Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and among the first Italian reds to be aged in small French oak barriques rather than the large Slavonian casks traditional to Chianti. These choices put the wine outside the legal boundaries of its appellation, consigning it to the humble 'Vino da Tavola' classification — a label that paradoxically became a badge of prestige rather than obscurity. The wine takes its name from the Tignanello vineyard within the Antinori family's Santa Cristina estate in the Chianti Classico zone. On the palate, it offers a compelling dialogue between Tuscany's native character — red cherries, dried earth, wild herbs — and the structure and depth that the Cabernet varieties contribute. Each vintage reflects its single-vineyard origin faithfully, making Tignanello not just a landmark wine but a living, evolving document of Italian winemaking ambition.
