Almaviva

Puente Alto, Maipo Valley, Chile · 1997'den beri

Almaviva stands as one of the most compelling statements Chilean winemaking has ever made on the world stage. Born in 1997 from a partnership between Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A. and Chile's storied Viña Concha y Toro, the project set out to merge the finest traditions of Bordeaux with the singular terroir of the Maipo Valley's Puente Alto subzone. Perched at the foot of the Andes, these gravelly, alluvial soils experience significant diurnal temperature shifts that lend the predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon grapes an exceptional balance of ripeness and freshness. The wine is crafted as a single-vineyard blend each vintage, echoing the first-growth philosophy of Pauillac while asserting a distinctly Chilean soul. Its name pays homage to the cunning and free-spirited valet in Mozart's Don Giovanni, hinting at the wine's character — refined, layered, and never quite predictable. On the palate, Almaviva offers a tapestry of dark fruit, graphite, dark chocolate and spiced French oak, all framed by silky yet firm tannins. It rewards patience in the cellar while already seducing with its depth and coherence in its youth.
